When the cotton plant flowers fall off, they leave a large capsule (or cotton boll) which splits opens to reveal a fluffy mass of white, downy, cotton fibre surrounding the cotton seeds.
Cotton bolls are an excellent teaching resource and an unusual wedding anniversary gift, especially for a second wedding anniversary.
